Megrez was the first EIC7700X board in volume production (Mini-ITX); the same chip also appears in the SiFive HiFive Premier P550, which is dearer but has better official Ubuntu support.

Distros

  • Debian Official RockOS (a PLCT-maintained tuned Debian for the EIC77 family)
  • Fedora Official The Fedora 41 image is built by Fedora-V Force (FVF), not an official Fedora image
  • Gentoo Community The Gentoo wiki has a Megrez install page (community-maintained)

Pitfalls

  • The CPU ships at 1.4GHz/800mV; you must raise it to 1.8GHz by hand per the docs or performance falls short of the marketing
  • First boot does not grow the partition and root is only 6GB; expand it with gparted or it fills up quickly and reboots into no desktop
  • The Fedora image comes from Fedora-V Force (F41), not an official Fedora build; there is no official Ubuntu image
  • No public retail channel (the site only offers Contact us), so in 2026 it is genuinely hard to buy
