Same SoC as the LicheePi 4A, smaller and cheaper, but with a noticeably smaller community and essentially only RevyOS for images.

Distros

  • RevyOS Official The vendor's recommended system, image 20251226 (kernel 6.6); Milk-V's image page now points to the RevyOS docs
  • openEuler Community The openEuler RISC-V SIG provides Meles images
  • deepin Community deepin RISC-V port
  • Debian Community The Debian wiki RISC-V page mentions TH1520/Meles; you can self-build from debian-ports
  • Buildroot Partial The RevyOS build chain is Buildroot-based, so you can produce your own boot/rootfs

Pitfalls

  • The 4GB and 8GB/16GB boards need different U-Boot SPL files (u-boot-with-spl-meles-4g.bin vs meles.bin); the wrong one bricks the board
  • From 20251226 it uses kernel 6.6, so upgrade the firmware in SPI flash before flashing the system
  • eMMC is an optional module; booting from it requires SPI NOR to be flashed first, otherwise you can only boot from SD
  • Flashing eMMC goes through fastboot (T-HEAD USB download gadget 2345:7654), and you must hold the Download button to enter download mode
  • The board has several V1.x hardware revisions (marked on the front silkscreen) that need matching DTBs/images
  • PoE power means feeding 5V into header PIN2/PIN4 yourself; it is not standard 802.3af powered-device input
