Same chip as the Milk-V Megrez (EIC7700X), but the P550 ships official Ubuntu with OTA, so its software is more mature; there is also Red Hat RHEL 10 developer preview support.

Distros

  • Ubuntu Official Ubuntu 24.04 preinstalled; SiFive released 2025.11.00 (kernel 6.12.33)
  • Fedora Official Supported since Fedora 42; Omni kernel since Fedora 44
  • Yocto / OpenEmbedded Official freedom-u-sdk Yocto BSP (including bootchain firmware)
  • Debian Community A SiFive blog says Debian support is in progress; prepare the image yourself

Pitfalls

  • Firmware must match the image: an old bootchain leaves Fedora unbootable, so flash the newest firmware first
  • No native NVMe slot — use a PCIe adapter; onboard networking is just 2× GbE
  • The iGPU supports OpenGL ES only; OpenGL needs MESA_LOADER_DRIVER_OVERRIDE=zink, and with a discrete GPU the GRUB menu doesn't display
  • No official channel in China; buy through overseas distributors such as Arrow, with shipping and duty on top
